FTC complaint filed against FastMP3Search

StopBadware.org, a project led by the Berkman Center for Internet & Society and the Oxford Internet Institute at Oxford University, and the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) have filed a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission against FastMP3Search.com.ar. According to the complaint, FastMP3Search.com.ar offers MP3 downloads but requires users to use a plugin to do so; this plugin goes on to download software, including adware and Trojan horse applications. StopBadware.org and CDT allege that this is "deceptive" and "unfair" conduct, in violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act (15 U.S.C. 45(a)(1)). In addition to joining the complaint, StopBadware.org offers a separate report discussing the plugin's behavior and effects.
